WHY STATIA

For travellers who would rather discover than arrive.

Come to Statia for a Caribbean escape that still feels wonderfully undiscovered. Hike into The Quill’s rainforest, dive pristine protected reefs and walk through streets where centuries of island history remain part of everyday life. Stay for the warm welcome, unhurried pace and rare feeling of having found somewhere truly special.

THE FIRST SALUTE · 1776–2026

The salute that echoed through history.

On November 16, 1776, Sint Eustatius made history when Fort Oranje—which visitors can still explore today—returned the cannon salute of the American brig Andrew Doria, recognizing the flag of the newly formed United States. Known as the First Salute, this historic moment forever connected Statia to the birth of America. In 2026, 250 years later, we celebrate the small island that gave a powerful salute to a new nation.

BEFORE YOU GO

Good to know.

How do I reach Sint Eustatius?

Most visitors connect through St Maarten (SXM), then continue to Statia’s F.D. Roosevelt Airport (EUX) with Winair or Fly Dutch Caribbean, or arrive at Gallows Bay with Makana Ferry. Always verify current schedules before building your international connection.

Do I need a car?

There is no public transport network on Statia. A rental car is the easiest way to explore independently; StatiaRental.com ↗ offers cars and scooters with airport, ferry and hotel delivery. Taxis are also available, but advance arrangements are sensible.

When should I reserve diving and hiking?

Contact dive operators before arrival, especially if you need equipment or instruction. The Quill is a genuine tropical hike: start early, carry water, use proper footwear and check local trail guidance.

Can I rent or buy property on Statia?

For longer-term rentals, homes and land for sale, contact local real estate agent Stay Eustatius ↗. Confirm current availability, terms and legal requirements directly with them.
